Privacy policy
Last updated October 21, 2026. Covers the Tab Riffle browser extension and the devrandom.dev website, both from devRandom (“we”). Contact: support@devrandom.dev.
The short version
- What Tab Riffle sees of your tabs stays on your computer. We never receive it.
- No analytics, no ads, no tracking, no accounts.
- If you buy Pro, we keep your email address and purchase record so we can send your license and let you restore it.
The Tab Riffle extension
Tabs and snapshots
To list and switch tabs, Tab Riffle reads your open tabs' titles, addresses and icons through the browser's extension interfaces. If you turn on previews, it also takes screenshots (“snapshots”) of the tabs you view and reads each page's own preview image address (for example, its og:image). This needs the “all sites” access the browser asks you to grant.
- Snapshots are kept in the browser's memory and cleared when the browser quits, unless you turn on “Keep snapshots after restart”, which saves them on your computer, in the extension's own storage. Turning that setting or previews off deletes them.
- To show a page's preview image, Tab Riffle downloads that image from the address the page itself names, without cookies, much as the browser would when you share the page.
- Snapshots, tab titles and addresses are never sent to us or anyone else.
Windows, tab groups and undo
- Window names and numbers. The browser gives windows new identities each time it restarts, so to give each window back its name, number and place, Tab Riffle keeps a list of each window's tab addresses (and which tabs are pinned), updated as its tabs change. A closed window's list is kept so the window is recognised if you reopen it, and forgotten at the second browser start after it closed if it hasn't come back. These lists stay on your computer, in the extension's own storage; they aren't synced. Named windows are listed in Tab Riffle's options (Windows), each with a Forget button.
- Tab groups. Tab Riffle reads your tab groups' names and colors to show them, and changes groups only when you ask it to (adding or removing tabs, moving a group to another window).
- Undo. To undo and redo its actions, Tab Riffle keeps a history of its last 20 actions, including the addresses and titles of the tabs involved. It's kept only until the browser quits. To reopen a closed tab with its back/forward history, it looks in the browser's own list of recently closed tabs for the entry the browser made when Tab Riffle closed it.
- To keep tabs in most-recently-used order, Tab Riffle keeps a list of the browser's tab numbers (not their addresses) until the browser quits.
Settings, trial and license
Your settings are stored in the browser's extension storage. Saved setups, the start date of your Pro trial and your Pro license are stored in the browser's synced extension storage, so if browser sync is on, your browser's maker (for example Google) syncs them between your computers under its own privacy policy.
When the extension contacts devrandom.dev
Never on its own: Unlock Pro and Restore open our website, and the extension itself sends nothing to us. To restore Pro you type your purchase email on our restore page, which sends it (and the code we email you) to devrandom.dev to get your license back. After a purchase or a restore, our thanks and restore pages hand your license to the extension directly; only devrandom.dev pages can do that. The extension contacts no servers of ours.
Permissions, and what each is for
- Tabs (“read your browsing history” in the browser's wording): to list your tabs with their titles, addresses and icons, and to switch, close, move, pin, mute and reload them.
- Tab groups: to show groups' names and colors and to change groups when you ask.
- Sessions: to reopen tabs Tab Riffle closed, through the browser's list of recently closed tabs, for Undo.
- Storage and unlimited storage: to keep your settings, window names and, if you choose, snapshots on your computer.
- Favicon: to show each tab's icon.
- Scripting: to draw the switcher over the page you're on, and to dim that page behind it.
- Display information: to know where your screens are, so that on a browser window spanning two screens the switcher's own window opens over the part you can see. Nothing about your screens is kept or sent anywhere.
- All sites (optional, asked for only when you turn on previews): to take snapshots of tabs and read a page's own preview image address.
Buying Pro
Payments are handled by Stripe, which sells Tab Riffle Pro on our behalf as the merchant of record and handles payment, taxes and receipts under Stripe's privacy policy. We never see your card details.
From Stripe we receive and keep: your email address, the checkout session ID, the date, and the amount and currency. Stripe also asks for your name and billing address, which it needs to work out sales tax; they reach our server with the purchase details, but we don't keep them. We use what we keep to:
- create your license, which contains your email address and purchase ID;
- send you a purchase confirmation with a restore link, and restore codes when you ask for one, through our email provider Resend;
- answer support requests and handle refunds.
A restore code is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form and expires after 15 minutes; to limit abuse, we also count how many codes were sent to an address in the past hour.
We keep your purchase record for as long as you might want to restore Pro. To have it deleted, email support@devrandom.dev from the purchase address; you'll then no longer be able to restore Pro by email. Stripe keeps its own records as required by law.
The website
devrandom.dev uses no cookies and no analytics. It's hosted by Cloudflare, which processes visitors' IP addresses and request details to deliver and protect the site, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. Purchase records are stored in Cloudflare's storage.
If you write to us, we use your message and address only to reply. Mail to devrandom.dev addresses is forwarded to a Gmail inbox.
Children
Tab Riffle isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to its use, by writing to support@devrandom.dev. We'll answer within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date. Significant changes affecting buyers will also be emailed to them.
